A Brief Note On The Elderly Of The Middle Class - 1302 Words

Narrative: The patient is a 55 year old African American female of the middle class. She lives in an area that provides a variety of nutritious goods and resources, and is capable of affording these products. Although she has access to numerous food varieties, her diet does not mirror this. After speaking with the patient I realized her diet includes some typical problem foods of the African American community, such as: bread, greens, potatoes and desserts. Like many African Americans, the patient is aware she is overweight and notes she would like to lose approximately 30 pounds in the next three months, through better eating and exercise. The patient is under the target goal. o The patient is expected to consume 700 micrograms RAE of vitamin A daily, but only c onsumed 424 micrograms RAE. The patient is under the target goal. o The patient is expected to consume 75 milligrams of vitamin C daily, but only consumed 51 milligrams. The patient is under the target goal. o The patient is expected to consume 15 micrograms of vitamin D daily, but did not consume any. The patient is under the target goal. o The patient is expected to consume 18 mg of iron daily, but only consumed 6 mg. The patient is under the target goal. o The patient is expected to consume 8 mg of zinc daily, but only consumed 3 mg. The patient is under the target goal. o The patient is expected to consume 1000 mg of calcium daily, but only consumed 199 mg. The patient is under the target goal. o Patient is under the target goal for her recommended supplements. o Patient is under the target goal for recommended fluid and electrolytes intake. †¢ Day two the patient’s caloric intake was approximately 1000 calories. o The patient’s target goal for carbohydrates is between 45-65 percent, and the patient’s daily intake was 51 percent of her daily carbohydrates, placing her within the range. o The patient is recommended to consume approximately 10-35 percent of proteins a day.
